The Story

Wesleyan College, chartered in 1836 as the first institution in the world authorized to grant degrees to women, remains a defining force in Macon’s educational landscape. Founded through the resolve of local citizens and the Georgia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the College still carries its original mission forward—expanding opportunity for women through a rigorous liberal arts foundation. Today, it offers bachelor’s programs in the arts and nursing, eight pre-professional pathways, and fully online degrees in business, accounting, and psychology, along with four graduate programs open to all.

Wesleyan’s reach extends beyond academics. Its NAIA athletics and dynamic arts and cultural programming make the campus a gathering point for the community. Macon residents and visitors can enjoy free athletics events, walk the 100-acre arboretum, attend gallery talks, concerts, and exhibitions, or local makers at the Wesleyan Market.
