Little Guide Augusta • Eat Local • Pg. 49
Chocolate cravings tend to find their way to La Bonbonnière. Since opening in 2005, BeBette Smith has built a devoted following at 231 Furys Ferry Road, even relocating twice within the same center to keep up with demand. After 20 years as an elementary school teacher, she recognized Augusta was missing a true chocolatier and decided to fill that space herself, introducing a level of craftsmanship rarely found locally.
Rather than making chocolate from the bean, BeBette transforms imported Belgian chocolate into refined confections. Working from 22 pound blocks, she creates silky ganaches, buttery caramels, dark and milk assortments, hand dipped truffles, and seasonal specialties that showcase pure flavor and texture. Customers seek out La Bonbonnière as a destination, often returning after travels abroad with one goal in mind: finding fine chocolate at home in Augusta, beautifully packaged and ready to gift.
