Discover the world and explore the universe at the
Museum of Arts and Sciences! Founded in 1956,
the MAS has expanded from a one-room exhibit in
the basement of the Wesleyan Conservatory to a
55,000 square foot facility on over 16 acres of land.
MAS is a resource for life-long learning—the
intersection of arts and sciences through exhibits, programs, and activities. MAS
stresses that exposure to the real thing and hands-on opportunities are key to
developing knowledge of the world.
View artwork in four art galleries that host rotating art and science exhibitions
throughout the year. Discover the world in the three-floor Discovery House, where
visitors can do hands-on activities with art and science, and stroll through the MiniZoo to see animals from all over the world. In the Scientist’s Workshop, children
can uncover recreated fossils from our prehistoric whale fossil that hangs above it.
Explore the universe in the Mark Smith Planetarium during our daily star shows.
Stroll along the paved Sweet Gum Trail to view outdoor sculptures, gardens, our
bat cave, and our Raptor Retreat that hosts birds of prey that call MAS their home.
There's always more to do at the Museum of Arts and Sciences!
