Her fertility journey led her to her passion—supporting mothers through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Noticing a lack of doula services in her community, she began attending births for friends, offering love and support. That calling grew, and in 2018, Nikki Avila officially began her doula training.
Now, as the founder of In the Waiting Doula Services, Nikki provides emotional, physical, and educational support, empowering families to make informed choices and advocate for their autonomy. She also guides partners in offering meaningful support during birth. As a Certified Hypnobabies Childbirth Educator and VBAC Link Educator, she teaches evidence-based techniques to help mothers approach birth with confidence. Her postpartum care includes belly binding for healing, rebozo techniques for gentle compression, and the Closing of the Bones ceremony—a sacred postpartum ritual honoring a mother’s transition. She also assists with light household tasks, allowing new mothers to focus on rest and recovery. Serving Kern County and beyond, Nikki ensures families feel informed, supported, and empowered. She also founded The Bakersfield Birth Circle, a safe space for doulas to find support.
If you’re looking for a compassionate, holistic approach to birth, she’d be honored to walk this journey with you—guiding you through the waiting, welcoming you to the moment.
