The Story

In the heart of Bakersfi eld, Civic Dance Center has shaped the art of ballet since 1968. Founded by Cindy Trueblood, who began teaching in her parents’ garage, the school has grown into a vibrant hub for dancers of all ages. Through training in multiple styles, Civic develops wellrounded performers with strong technique and artistic expression. Under the direction of Erica Ueberroth, this legacy continues to fl ourish as a cornerstone of dance education in Bakersfield. Civic proudly produces the city’s longestrunning Nutcracker, a cherished holiday tradition. Central to its mission is Bakersfi eld City Ballet, its pre-professional company offering advanced training and performance opportunities. With classes for ages two through adult, Civic provides a welcoming space where creativity, discipline, and joy in movement come together—proving a future in dance can begin right here in Bakersfield.
