After 30 years in the classroom, Karen wasn’t looking to slow down — she was ready to build something of her own. At 51, she retired from teaching and purchased Salon at Surrey, shaping it into a space that feels relaxed, refined, and welcoming. Located in one of Augusta’s most established shopping centers, the salon reflects her vision of trust, encouragement, and community. Known as “Mama Karen,” she leads with warmth while her husband Dave — affectionately dubbed “HR” — helps cultivate the supportive culture clients quickly notice.
