The Story

Augusta’s Usry family legacy stretches back to the 1940s, when Horace Usry, known as the original “Fat Man,” took over his father’s grocery and renamed it Fat Man’s Corner. What began as a neighborhood store evolved into Fat Man’s Forest, a seasonal destination many locals still remember for its festive atmosphere and family outings. That spirit of hard work and hospitality laid the groundwork for what continues today at Fat Man’s Mill Café.

Located at Historic Enterprise Mill, Fat Man’s Mill Café serves soul-satisfying Southern fare rooted in family tradition. The menu features comfort classics like their famous squash casserole alongside daily specials, hearty lunches, and crowd-pleasing favorites that keep regulars coming back. From full-service catering to hosting gatherings and celebrations, the café blends warm service with generous portions. It is a continuation of the Usry commitment to welcoming Augusta with food that feels both familiar and lasting.
