The Usry family’s deep-rooted history in Augusta dates back to the 1940s, when Horace Usry—fondly known as the original “Fat Man”—took over his father’s grocery store and renamed it Fat Man’s Corner. This iconic business evolved into Fat Man’s Forest, a beloved destination for gifts and seasonal decor. In the 1980s, Horace’s son, Brad, expanded the family legacy with Fat Man’s Chow and later opened his first restaurant, Cotton Row Café.
Following in his father and grandmother’s footsteps, Havird Usry, Brad’s son, grew up immersed in the family business. With a hands-on education in the kitchen and a passion for business and culinary arts, Havird is now a partner in the family’s enterprises, continuing the Usry tradition of excellence.
Located at Historic Enterprise Mill, Fat Man’s Mill Café serves up soul-satisfying Southern fare, including their famous squash casserole.
